Thinking about flying by Air India? Think again. Your flight may no longer be safe. Air India pilots, air hostesses, cabin crew and their entire staff believe that they Own Air India and it shows in their behavior and attitude. They feel that they are Indian government employees and can do whatever they like. They are rude, arrogant and make their own rules whatever they like simply to harass passengers. These pilots who fought over an air hostess are no better than school kids fighting over candies. My brother and his wife had US Immigrant visa with a 6 month validity stamped in their Indian passports valid until June 4, 2009. They arrived in the US on February 22, 2009 by British Airways. They were in transit in London to get a connecting flight. They encountered no problem in London. They only had Indian passports and US Immigrant visa stamped in the passports as stated above (No green card yet). My mother suffered from brain hemorrhage and was in the hospital in India. So my brother and his wife had to rush to India to take care of her within a month after their arrival in the US. Their green card was still under processing and did not arrive at the time they were going back to India.I booked their ticket to fly by Air India Newark-Mumbai-Ahmedabad since seats in other airlines were not available at the last minute. My friend took them to Newark airport to catch Air India flight around March 18, 2009. During the check in at Newark Airport, Air India staff asked for their green card. They did not have it yet since it was still under processing. Note here that both of them were Indian citizens, had valid Indian passports with US Immigrant visa still valid till June 4, 2009 and had a confirmed ticket to travel. Air India staff would not let them check in simply because they did not have green card. When asked for a reason, they were told by Air India staff that they must have green card for transit in London. (They were in transit in London and had no green card when they arrived) Air India staff told them to go to JFK airport and catch another Air India direct flight JFK-Mumbai and then connect to Ahmedabad flight in Mumbai. My friend had no choice but to drive about 90 minutes from Newark, New Jersey airport to JFK, New York airport in ever busy traffic. Air India must suspend license of all involved and immediately sack them and make the victim CEO of Air India. Till then, never ever fly by Air India due to horrible behavior of Air India staff
