5 Flu suspects in India, 1,000 hit worldwide

NEW DELHI May 4: Influenza A (H1N1), also called Swine Flu, continued to spread across the world, with the number of confirmed cases in 20 countries topping 1,000 today. In India, five more people with suspected Swine Flu symptoms were quarantined.
Three people with suspected Swine Flu symptoms were being screened in Delhi, along with two in Kochi, joint secretary, health, Mr Vineet Chawdhry told mediapersons. Two of the three in Delhi had come from Germany and the other from the USA. The two in Kochi had come from Dubai after visiting the USA and Britain.
He said in addition to airports and ports, screening for Swine Flu is being introduced on road checkposts on the Nepal and Bhutan borders. He added that efforts are being made to trace some 84 people had come to India by road in the last week.
Swine Flu has killed 22 people in Mexico, where there have been a total of 590 confirmed cases. In the USA, there were 226 confirmed cases, while there were 79 cases in Europe. Meanwhile, slamming China's quarantine of 70 Mexican tourists as discrimination, Mexico said it was chartering a plane to bring its citizens home.
