Chennai Super Kings have won the third edition of IPL by beating Mumbai Indians in DY Patil Stadium last night.
Chennai posted a good total of 168/5 from 20 Overs in a wicket that didn’t look in best of shape and favored the slow bowlers more. Suresh Raina played a superb knock of 57 from 35 balls and received support from Captain Dhoni who scored 22.
With 169 runs to win in a slow wicket was always tough. Ashwin started off with a maiden over for Super Kings and was followed by Bollinger’s classic delivery that saw Sikhar Dhawan getting dismissed after Dhoni took his catch.
I was surprised to see Abhishek Nayyar coming up the order when the likes of Saurabh Tiwary and JP Duminy could have been better in that position and even Ambati Rayadu who was in top form.
Both Sachin and Nayyar struggled facing the CSK bowlers in the first 6 Overs but then they tried to reply them back but Nayyar suddenly went out courtesy a direct throw from Captain Dhoni. Sachin was looking good when he got out in long on as Murli Vijay took his catch of Jakati’s bowling.
Mumbai got their strategies wrong with their batting order as the run rate catapulted like anything. Kieron Pollard could have been a good option at that point of time but Mumbai took a nasty decision of bringing Harbhajan at that point of time when Kieron Pollard could have been handy. In the end Harbhajan went for a duck and even Tiwary and Duminy failed to provide the magic. Rayadu kept on playing his natural and was late joined by Pollard at 8 who started firing as he scored 22 of Dougie Bollinger in the 18th over.
With 33 needed of the last two overs Albie Morkel bowled the 19th over and the South African was spot on as his over saw Rayadu getting run out and was followed by Pollard’s wicket who went out after making 27 of 10 balls after Matt Hayden took a great catch in mid-off.
