Thiruvananthapuram : Will the Gods Own Country's traditional snake boat race be the cynosure of all eyes in the inaugural ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics? With an object of conducting a mini snake boat race, showcasing Kerala's rich tradition with rowers clad in traditionl 'mundu and baniyan,' on the eve of the 2012 London Olympics, 'Keraleeyam,' a cultural organisation here, is taking efforts to organise a snake boat race in the waters of Thames River on June 9.
He claimed that Kerala Tourism, Industry and Sports Department had already extended its full support and financial cooperation for the project, to be organised at a cost of Rs seven crore.
The event was prior to the annual Oxford Cambridge University's Canoeing competition on June 10, in which Queen Elizabeth would be the chief guest, Keraleeyam Secretary Harikumar told UNI.
It was expected that besides the Queen, the newly-elected president would also be present to receive the boat at the function, he said, adding, after the scheduled programme the snake boat would be presented to the queen.
